Resolution Fun Run January 5, 2019.
No Cost:No cost involved in this run/walk and two complimentary aid stations provided by Conquer the Canuck Race Director. This event is treated as a training run only and opportunity to kick start your running goals for 2019 and most importantly, meet new friends on the run/walk. Please RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org, if you are planning to attend, by Jan 2nd, so that we can ensure our aid station is stocked accordingly!
Where:Start and finish at Wheels on Peel in New Hamburg , Ontario.
Parking:Lots of parking available on Peel and surrounding side streets.
Distance (optional): The official starting time is 10 am from Wheels on Peel bike shop in New Hamburg. Runners or walkers can do as many loops as they wish!
Course: A 10.3 km country road loop from Wheels on Peel. (super low traffic and scenic). or a 4.3 km combined road/trail route (1.7 km to super aid station and runners or walkers can continue on to do the 1.1 km trail loop. This loop starts at the aid station and comes back to the aid station then back to store for 4.5 kms.
Road Course Participants:Leave store at 173 Peel St. and head towards Huron St (near Home Hardware). Turn left at Huron St and go over the bridge. At the four-way intersection, turn right at Waterloo St and follow to Shade St. Turn left on Shade St. Shade then turns into Perth St as you round the corner on Shades. Follow Perth St until you reach Wilmot Easthope Rd. Turn right on Wilmot Easthope Rd and continue for about 600 meters until you reach Christner Rd. Turn right on Christner Rd and continue until you reach Waterloo St. Turn right on Waterloo St and continue into town until you reach Steinman St. Turn right on Steinman St and follow to Smiths Creek Dr. Turn left when you reach Smith's Creek Dr and sharp left as you reach the court. There will be a Special Aid station in our garage and washrooms available. This is the 8.3 km mark of the 10.3 km loop. When you leave the aid station, you head back out Smith's Creek Dr to Steinman St. and turn right on Steinman St. Follow to Waterloo St and continue back to Huron St. Turn left at Huron St and follow to Peel St. Turn right on Peel St and head back to the store to finish. Note: Look for yellow fluorescent arrows on most turns.
Trail course Participants: Start with the 10.3 km road starters. when you reach Shade Street, don't turn with road group, continue up Waterloo St and turn left after train tracks at Steinman Street. Steinman then becomes Catherine Street, follow on Catherine St to the first left turn at Smith's Creek Drive. Stay to the left as you come down Smith's Creek and use the sidewalk as you round the corner (super aid at this location and approx 1.7 km mark). Follow signs that will take you to the Smiths Creek Drive trail route. This section (special aid station, trail loop and back to the special aid station) is approximately 1.2 km, and can be used for those are needing more aid or only wanting to achieve a desired shorter distance. It is only 2 km back to Wheels on Peel from the Special aid station. Those who started out on the road section and want to switch to the trail section after the 8.3 km mark, are welcome to do so. Note: Look for yellow fluorescent arrows on all turns.
Aid stations:Water and Gatorade at store (please bring your own refillable bottle) if you can. "Special" aid station for road course and trail course groups.
Strong bars nutritionwill be providing a complimentary bar to all participants before heading out on the run or walk.
Course markings:Look for yellow Bristol board type paper that has an arrow with NRR (New Years Resolution Run) on it. I will also have maps printed for those wishing one. Just ask before you start your run from the store.
Safety is #1:This community fun run and training run is not be taken as a race. All in attendance are asked to stay together for the first 2 km and make all feel welcome. You must face the traffic at all times, as we would normally do in a regular training run, and no hogging the road as motorist still have the right of way. Please stay to the paved shoulder of the road and bike path or preferably side walk on Waterloo st, as this will be the busiest part of the 10.3 km route.
Honorary Guest: Honouring Robert Winckler from Guelph Ontario, for his recent Guinness Book of World Records accomplishment in setting a record in the Scotia Bank Half Marathon while carrying a golf bag with clubs weighing 21 lbs in total, on his back. This recognition will occur at 10 am and run/walk will start at 10:05 am.
